New Age of Joy version 0.1.0
I published the new v0.1.0 with a lot of fixes and a few new features, but nothing outstanding. This month was difficult in the Quest 2 world: a Meta bug in its Quest platform leaves developers with no possibility of testing in the headset, but in some way I managed to keep going (that is always in my free time).
Age of Joy continues in development, open beta. Delays, failures, hangs, artifacts, and other problems are expected. A long list of enhancements and fixes continues on the way…
Migration
To migrate from the first version published (let’s call it v0.0.0) to the version 0.1.0 you should follow the next steps
Versions are incompatible, then you need to uninstall the apk and install the new version, and, later after the first run, copy cabinet assets.
Please read all this instructions before start, if not you could lost some files:
- Uninstall previous version using Sidequest:
- Backup your ROMs before uninstall, remember they are in
/sdcard/Android/data/com.curif.AgeOfJoy/downloads
- I recommend to backup cabinets if you modify them because you will lost that files too.
- If you want to preserve the cabinets positions in the rooms, backup the
/sdcard/Android/data/com.curif.AgeOfJoy/cabinetsdb/registry.json
file before uninstall - Uninstall using sidequest.
- Backup your ROMs before uninstall, remember they are in
- Download and install the new version v0.1.0
- Run the game.
- Install the ROMs.
- Install cabinets as usual: How to get and deploy cabinets assets
- I recommend to download and install the new fixed cabinets assets. Just remember this fixed assets aren’t compatible with the old v0.0.0.
- Run the game again.
Fixes a improvements:
- Added the right joystick as an analog control.
- The right index trigger copies the
B
button (you can shoot by using it) - CRC ROM: now the tested ROMs have recorded their MD5 sum in the database
- Published a page to get the
MD5 sum
of any ROM file, now you can compare yours with that is registered in the database. - Some cabinet models now include more precise measurements to increase simulation precision. I double-checked the information on the cabinet flyers.
- Cabinets packs assets adjusted to accomplish the previous bullet too.
- CRTs are centered.
- Improvements on the cabinet’s room registry. Stronger verification of the cabinet’s zip file.
- In some cabinets, bezels occludes the CRT, fixed.
- The NPC behavior was improved. When they sense the presence of the player, they flee. It’s not possible to disable them yet. They are a little creepy 😂
- I’m been working on the Save State function. The fundamental aim is to bypass the “booting phase” of the original arcade machine, but, sadly, mostly of the games become stuck when the function is enabled. I have to disable it in the majority of the cabinets. You can look the database and see in which one is working.
- Tron cabinet model (remember: the cabinets models are bundled in the game). The cabinet asset will be published in the Asset Pack #3 (may be it’s published when you read this).

Unfortunately I have problems with this version. I can start the app and insert the coins into the machine, but I don't get any credits and the games won't start. I've tried everything. Do others have the same problems as me?
To “play” games you must to upload the ROM of each one. Check this pages:
Or you can open an issue in the GitHub page: issues
Thank you very much for your hint. I uploaded all the roms individually. I can also see and hear the trailers of the games in the machines. If I insert the coin, the game starts briefly, but I don't get any credits and unfortunately the game cannot be started either.
